Project Structure

Humaan stores project identity and application-managed data inside .humaan. Other files in the project root can hold source code, robot assets, and notes. Only the project manifest is needed to identify a project; other collections appear as their workflows are used.

This tree lists storage locations supported by the code, not files created by initialization. annotations.json and .verification.json are optional. Desktop collections are evolving alpha implementation details; their locations do not establish a stable public interchange schema.

File Responsibilities

PathResponsibility
.humaan/project.jsonProject format version, stable UUID, and display name.
recordings/<id>/manifest.jsonExperience ID, robot and task strings, and declared artifact formats, sizes, and SHA-256 checksums.
recordings/<id>/…Original recording artifacts at the relative paths declared by the manifest. An artifacts/ subfolder is not required.
recordings/<id>/annotations.jsonMutable human review history, separate from checksummed recording artifacts.
recordings/.verification.jsonSaved desktop verification results and file metadata fingerprints.
learning-sets/<id>.jsonImmutable curation selection, reasons, manifest snapshots, and pinned review revisions.
builder/versions/, builder/modules/Saved Builder robot versions and reusable modules.
simulation/runs/Saved simulation run records.
training/Local task, environment, experiment, run, loop, experience, and cloud job metadata collections.
deployments/robots/, deployments/sessions/Local robot and session snapshots.
deployments/policies/, deployments/policy-assignments/Policy registry and assignment history.

Paths in this table after the first row are relative to .humaan/. Saved desktop collection entries generally use <id>.json; identifier rules depend on the collection. Do not assume every collection uses UUIDs.

Recording and Curation Contracts

The recording format reference defines manifest validation, artifact integrity, and review revisions. The learning-set format reference defines curation snapshots and exports. These specifications remain the authority for their formats.

Recording robot and task fields are strings in version 1. They do not currently resolve to robot or task configuration files. Learning sets select whole experiences; temporal segment selection is outside their current format.

Project Portability

Preserve the relative layout of recording artifacts when moving a project. Recording manifests require portable relative paths and reject symbolic links for artifacts. A copied project retains the same project UUID; create a new project when you need a separate identity.

Keep original recordings, annotations, and learning sets as persistent project data. Verification metadata can be regenerated through verification; its cached file fingerprints do not replace artifact checksum checks.

See the proposed project format for a future separation of user-authored definitions, generated runs, and local workspace state. That layout requires implementation and migration before Humaan can load it.
